Pork Barrel BBQ has been a mainstay of Meat Week since we started – two years before they even had a restaurant to host us in!
Pork Barrel BBQ’s Meat Week Sampler will include 1/4 lb pulled pork, 1/4 lb brisket, Burnt Ends, a Texas beef sausage link, 2 Spare Ribs, Cornbread, and your choice of 2 sides for $23.95. A portion of the proceeds from each Sampler sold will be donated to Operation Barbecue Relief.
And Pork Barrel is once again hosting the “High on the Hog Eating Challenge” during their event. Competitors must eat:
A smackin’ daddy oversized sandwich
6 bone slab of Spareribs
Two Beef sausage links
Side of Mac and Cheese
Side of Potato Salad
Side of BBQ Beans
They will take a maximum of 7 competitors. There is a $25 entrance fee (paid just before the eating challenge starts) that will go to Operation BBQ Relief. The first person to finish wins a $50 gift card and anyone who can finish in under 45 minutes gets a t shirt.
The contest starts at 8pm.
Running off of last year’s success, 918 F Street is once again hosting the D.C. BBQ Food Truck Face-Off. Enjoy the best barbecue in the District, as five of the area’s most popular barbecue food trucks battle for the title of Food Truck Face-Off Grand Champion. You’ll get to taste even more samples this year (15 in total) — and be voting for all your favorites in the People’s Choice categories of barbecue beef, barbecue pork, and side dish.
While sipping your beer, take in butchering demos from Wagshal’s, barbecue rub samplings from Dizzy Pig, a sauces demo from Pork Barrel BBQ, barbecue knife skills from Aporkalypse Now, and fuel option presentations from Degüello BBQ. And new this year, is a celebrity judging panel including Jim Shahin, Washington Post Smoke Signals barbecue columnist, and Tim Carman, Washington Post food reporter and critic. Be a part of all of the BBQ when you join this competition on Friday, January 31 at 918 F Street, in celebration of the 5th annual DC Meat Week.
We will be onsite as part of the celebrity judging panel and doing sauce demos. It’s going to be a fun night!
